That rabbit/hare post is messing me up. I’d thought they were synonyms. Their development and social behavior are all different. They can’t even interbreed. They don’t have the same number of chromosomes. Dogs, wolves, jackals, and coyotes can mate with each other and have fertile offspring but rabbits and hares cant even make infertile ones bc they just die in the womb. Wack.

These

and that’s why morphology-based phylogeny has Issues

@aviculor

The problem is perspective. People always think dogs are the ‘standard’ animal, the metric to use for whether or not two organisms “look like” they’re related. When in fact they’re a massive outlier due to the fact that we fucked up this lineage of wolf beyond recognition with selective breeding. It’s why people always say “breed” when they mean “species”, especially when talking about groups like lizards which can’t even be defined cladistically since some of them are closer to snakes than each other. To say nothing of fish.

I once read an article that emphasized there is no such thing as a fish. Sharks and rays, lamprey, lobe-finned fish like lungfish and coelacanth, bichir and sturgeon, and of course the multiple infraclasses of more “modern” fish groups are all only very distantly related to one another. They’ve maintained semi-similar body structures only because there are limited ways to efficiently move through water as a vertebrate.

And this

Are more distantly related from one another than you and I are from a lungfish

Which is absolutely fuckin wild.

Not only that, but all of us air-breathing land vertebrates, all the lizards and chickens and people and frogs, are closer to one another than those three “fish” are to one another as well.

🐋 Help us to save the marine animals 🐋

The role plastic products play in the daily lives of people all over the world is interminable. We could throw statistics at you all day long (e.g. Upwards of 300 MILLION tons of plastic are consumed each year), but the impact of these numbers border on inconceivable.

For those living on the coasts, a mere walk on the beach can give anyone insight into how staggering our addiction to plastic has become as bottles, cans, bags, lids and straws (just to name a few) are ever-present. In other areas that insight is more poignant as the remains of animal carcasses can frequently be observed; the plastic debris that many of them ingested or became entangled in still visible long after their death. Sadly, an overwhelming amount of plastic pollution isn’t even visible to the human eye, with much of the pollution occurring out at sea or on a microscopic level.

The short-lived use of millions of tons of plastic is, quite simply, unsustainable and dangerous. We have only begun to see the far-reaching consequences of plastic pollution and how it affects all living things. According to a study from Plymouth University, plastic pollution affects at least 700 marine species, while some estimates suggest that at least 100 million marine mammals are killed each year from plastic pollution.
Here are some of the marine species most deeply impacted by plastic pollution.

  1. Sea Turtles
  2. Seals and Sea Lions
  3. Seabirds
  4. Fish
  5. Whales and Dolphins

Save our planet, save our oceans, save ocean life, save the future. This all makes me so sad, and it should make everyone else sad too. The earth is dying it’s our fault. Maybe not directly (if you don’t live in a location that is remotely near the ocean), but you can at least help to be a solution.

Always reblog!!

Great pins at great prices. Fantastic communication and customer service. Will absolutely buy from again. Thank you so much. My whole order was great and I loved it all.

nonblack lesbians arent studs

Look at this. Read it. Then read it again.

Ok actually I’mma add something, as there are people confused in the tags about what this means. “Stud” (in the context of lesbianism) is a black identity identity akin to what butch would be considered. It’s a unique role and identity that originated from black lesbian communities (same as AG/aggressive(s) girls/stem/boi). There has been a problem with white lesbians in particular putting themselves in the stud tag and plastering their faces all other spaces/media made for STUDS (a specific group of GNC black lesbians). It’s really annoying and tiring because most of these white self pro claimed “studs” end up emulating masculine coded behaviour that is found in black (Specifically African American) culture, which literally makes y’all look like fools. Black identities and cultural mannerisms are not for your consumption or appropriation.
